1. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has emerged as India's new No 1 in the latest rankings for universities from BRICS and other emerging economies. The Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2015 has placed Bangalore-based IISc at No 25 in the overall 100, topped by China's Peking University.

Facing iron ore crunch for the first time in its over 100 years of history, Tata Steel is now operating its 9.7 million tonnes per annum facility in Jamshedpur with raw material bought from domestic sources besides imports. The company, which has bought 2.3 million tonnes iron ore to run its lone steel-making facility in the country, said the quantum of buying would go up if its closed mines do not start production.

The European launcher blasted off at 2.10am (IST) and hurled the GSAT-16, designed to augment the national space capacity to boost communication services, into space in a flawless flight. GSAT-16 was launched into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
